Your transmission grinds, but you need to drive the car to work and cannot afford any down time. Pulling the unit out now to ship it in and wait 2-3 weeks is too long. That is no problem! Jacks Transmissions keeps a limited inventory of cores in stock. If we do not have one readily available, our staff with locate a quality core unit to fit your needs and ship it to you for purchase or an exchange. You will then have a new transmission or transfer case sitting there while you pull off the old one so as to minimize the amount of down time you incur.
If you would like to do an exchange, you can select the option from the drop down menu listed on the rebuild pages. If you have questions regarding core availability, please email us:
Please note: if your core has extensive damage, you may not get all of your core money refunded. Damage to the case housings, differentials, gears, shafts, etc, may result in a prorated refund of your core charge. Think about it. If your old Transmission, T-Case, Rear Diff, Engine, etc, is destroyed beyond repair, why even spend the time to box it up and send it back? Each of our build options list out the specific parts / services they include. If you know that a part is broken, and do not see it listed out on the detailed description of the build you chose, be prepared to supply us with a usable replacement or we will prorate the refund to cover the costs associated with making your old core buildable. Also, core exchanges are only valid on like-for-like assemblies unless written authorization has been given prior to the order being placed. Meaning, if you order an EVO 8 5-Speed transmission build, your broken EVO 9 MR 6-speed cannot be accepted as an eligible core return!
CORES MUST BE RETURNED WITHIN 45 DAYS FROM WHEN WE SHIPPED THE REBUILT ASSEMBLY TO YOU IN ORDER TO BE ELIGIBLE AS A CORE RETURN!!
Effective August 1, 2013, there will be an added service / convenience surcharge to participate in the core exchange program. The surcharge is 10% and will be deducted from the amount refunded back to you for sending a rebuildable core back to us.
Updated Oct 1, 2017: We have received numerous inquiries over the years regarding core charges, core charge prorated refunds, surcharges, etc. We have tried to simplify the process as much as we can. Since the concept of receiving a refund for 90% of the core charge seems to confuse some, we are changing the structure of our core exchange and core purchase programs. Effective immediately, the Core Charge and Core Exchange Fee will be separated into two different line items. The Core Charge will be whatever the stated rate within the build service is ($1500, for example, on a Mitsubishi EVO 8/9 5-Speed transmission). The core charge exchange fee will be a separate line item, equal to 10% of the core charge itself. Using the same example, the exchange fee is $150 and will be in addition to the $1500. Upon receipt of your core return, and pending the condition, the core charge will be refunded in its entirety ($1500), but the exchange fee will be retained by Jacks Transmissions. The exchange fee helps to cover the additional time/labor it takes to locate a core, make it usable, and offer our clients the convenience of helping to minimize their downtime.
Now, what if you do not have a core to return? No problem! Since there will be no exchange, we will not collect an exchange fee. Meaning, instead of paying the core charge and an exchange fee, we would only collect the core charge!
What if I order the build service online and it includes both fees, but I do not have a core to exchange? Again, no problem! We will promptly refund the exchange fee! Just be sure to include a note when placing your order so we can quickly process your request.
Please ask if you have any questions regarding cores, core charges, core exchanges, or anything else related to the services we offer!
