DSM / EVOIII - 1ST AND 5TH RPM AND SPEED

We offer an 11% taller EVO 3 1st gear and a 10% taller EVO 3 5th gear for most of our AWD DSM rebuilds . Here are some numbers about what that means for your car. These numbers assume stock tire size and the stock final drive ratio of 4.929.

EVO 3 1st Gear

STOCK 1ST EVO 3 1ST
RPM SPEED SPEED
8000 39.64 44.44
7500 37.16 41.66
7000 34.69 38.89
6500 32.21 36.11
6000 29.73 33.33
3000 14.87 16.67
2500 12.39 13.89
2000 9.91 11.11
1500 7.43 8.33
1000 4.96 5.56

As you can see the EVO 3 1st gear allows you to go 44.44 MPH in 1st gear compared to the stock 1st gear which only allows you to go 39.64 in 1st gear. The taller 1st gear is stronger, allows you to get off the line better for drag racing, and is also more useful in short track or auto x racing and makes it more feasible to shift to 1st for the slower corners.

EVO 3 5th Gear

STOCK 5TH EVO 3 5TH
RPM SPEED SPEED
8000 183.51 200.35
7500 172.04 187.83
7000 160.57 175.31
6500 149.10 162.79
6000 137.63 150.27
3000 68.82 75.13
2500 57.35 62.61
2000 45.88 50.09
1500 34.41 37.57
1000 22.94 25.04

In a car with the rev limit set at 8000 RPM and enough power, it is actually possible to break 200 MPH with this gear! While this is cool, most people actually prefer the taller 5th because of the lower cruising RPM on the freeway. It provides a quieter ride and saves gas. At 55 MPH, the stock ratio has you at about 2500 RPM, where the taller 5th has you closer to 2000.
