This build package was designed to fix the most common causes of poor-quality shifting, while correcting several key areas to increase reliability, such as with the 4th gear thrust issues. The 4th gear thrust issue is a major concern for those who are making above stock torque levels. The added torque puts excessive force into the 4th gear clip, causing it to rub against, and chip, the teeth on the shaft. As the gear floats across the countershaft, they become misaligned resulting in a major gear failure. We modify the assembly and install a 2-piece thrust sleeve to prevent this failure. The thrust clip is heavy duty, secures much deeper into the shaft compared to OEM, and requires us to modify the countershaft and the reverse gear assemblies.
When the 3-4 Shift Fork / Gear Slider overextends on the gear hub, there is a chance that the small synchro spring and detent ball can pop out, causing additional issues. We correct this issue by replacing the gear hub detents with a much more robust style. We also install heavy duty bronze rail bushings to keep the shift rails from wobbling around inside the transmission. This results in more precise shifting.
WPC is a permanent surface treatment that reduces friction while strengthening the part. Its unique micro-dimple formation pattern greatly reduces friction and is unmatched by conventional methods of surface treatment. It is a proven process that has been utilized for many years in the racing and automotive industry and is complimented by utilizing our Micropolish treatment. WPC can strengthen parts in two ways. First it adds an extremely high level of compressive stress at, and near, the surface. The second, is that the WPC treatment creates a Nano - Crystalline structure at the surface of the metal. Both of these mean that metal fatigue and crack initiation are both noticeably reduced; thus, strengthening the gears and shafts inside of the transmission.
